About the Council
The Region 6 Youth Preparedness Council was established in 2014 by the Region 6 Citizen Corps Program Working Group, in partnership with state, tribal, and local emergency management partners. Since the inception of the council in 2014, federal, state, tribal and local partners have been coming together to put forth the top teenage leaders in Region 6's respective jurisdictions to lead projects and youth preparedness discussions. Participating states include Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, alongside over 60 tribal nations in Region 6.
The Region 6 Youth Preparedness Council also maintains involvement in many local activities throughout the year. Historically, the council has been advocates for youth preparedness in their schools and communities, where they aid community leaders in hosting preparedness based activities geared not only to young people, but community members of all ages. This includes youth preparedness camps in virtually every state in Region 6's district, as well as local projects in most members communities. Such programs include the STEP Program, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Teen CERT, Stop the Bleed, and other various first aid, CPR, or preparedness programs.
